Description

Long introduction, folks, but I like what was said, and I hope it adds something for you as well. Song starts around 2:00 if you'd like to skip through.

I learned this piece with Clayton and two other classmates for a university assignment. The four of us (2 pianos, voice and melodic percussion) did two versions of it: one similar to this, and one ambient, avant garde arrangement. In this video, Clayton and I are performing it in my hometown, Shelburne Nova Scotia, for a fundraising event. (http://www.shelburnecountya...)

I learned the song using the infamous google translate, a wikipedia page on Icelandic alphabet-phonetics, my own ear, and a great lyric translation site, where you can find the original lyrics, should you be interested in Icelandic! (http://lyricstranslate.com/...) Certainly lyrics are super important (to myself at least) and so I'll give you my ideal translation of them.

LYRICS:
Evening is ours - springtime in the woods of Vaglaskóg
We shall camp in green berry fields
Lead me friend, to the groves of yesterday
There, the spring murmurs, and the birch trees heal.

It plays in light curls and perfumed roses
It plays in light curls, the vagrant wind.

Pearls glitter in the valley, bringing calm
Dreams are fulfilled for those who stay in Vaglaskóg
Evening-red-sunshine strikes upon berries
The stillness is peaceful: mild and melancholy

It plays in light curls and perfumed roses
It plays in light curls, the vagrant wind.

It plays in light curls and perfumed roses
It plays in light curls, the vagrant wind.
